For 'info'
Below you will find a link to an email I received recently. I have no other knowledge except what is written therein but it looks like something that everybody should be aware of and presumably will be something the KCPA will need to discuss. It 'witters' on a bit but stick with it, it eventually comes to the point!
Link to FIAP Campaign email Resizing for Digital Projection change:
The KCPA has recently changed the rules for the resizing of files for digital projection. Formerly, they were presented in the Adobe RGB 98 color space but this has now been changed to SRGB {don't ask!} so anyone who is using the actions available on the KCPA website should now download them again as they have been updated to reflect the change. Those who resize their files manually, remember to use the SRGB color space instead.
Photoshop CS4
Just a word of warning if you're thinking of upgrading from CS3 to CS4, especially with regard to the Extended version, you will need a fairly 'high end' video card in your machine, it requires a card that supports Open GL 2, Shader model 3 for all the bells and whistles to work. If you have a video card with this spec you may still find that brush outlines disappear and the screen does not refresh when you move a palette, in which case you need to download the latest driver from the manufacturers and, as I have found, this cures the problems. There remains a problem with it printing very dark, if and when I get an answer to that problem,{ maybe someone knows?} I'll post the answer here.
The answer? it seems everyone has the same problem and it's an Adobe thing. Many also found CS3 printed rather darker than desired. It is rumoured that Adobe are preparing a patch to remedy the problem but personally, I've been recommended to download and use a print program called Qimage which bypasses Photoshop altogether and prints beautifully. Hope this helps.
Learning Depth of Field
Several members have mentioned that they are unclear on the subject of depth of field and Bert Gilchrist has written a short piece on the subject which may help some folk grasp the essentials. Click here to download the .pdf
Keeping abreast of our Rights
With matters of copyright and Photographers legal rights moving so swiftly, your web manager has given up trying to keep pace and suggests that anyone interested in these matters, and it affects all of us, goes to these web sites which are keeping their fingers on the pulse.
www.photorights.org www.copyrightaction.com Chatham Camera Club
No, not a new club springing up in nearby Chatham but a photographic club in Ontario, Canada with whom we correspond and hopefully, swap images. If you want to learn more, have a stroll over to their website and see how it's done over there, click here to pay a visit.

Resizing Images for Digital Competition
With the advent of the digital projector we are required to downsize our images and submit them prepared for digital competitions. This can be a tedious and confusing operation so two sets of Actions have been made available so that you can download them and the instructions and thus simplify the job. These Actions are the result of several weeks work by Dr John Bowsher and Ruth Brown and can be found by clicking here, the KCPA website
You will need to have Adobe Reader installed to open .pdf files, if you need to install this, go to the Adobe site and download it.
